EC.02.06.01 was the Environment of Care standard under which pest activity observed during a Joint Commission survey was cited through December 31, 2025.

Status

Effective January 1, 2026, the Environment of Care chapter was consolidated into the Physical Environment chapter for hospitals. This reference reads EC.02.06.01 EPs 1, 2, and 3 as having moved to PE.01.01.01 — Safe and Adequate Physical Environment; the 2026 chapter enumerates no EC.02.06.01 EP text, so the mapping has not been verified against it. TJC’s September 2025 disposition report describes the consolidation as a reorganisation and renumbering that introduces no new concepts and does not change the underlying compliance expectations.

A facility holding an EC.02.06.01 citation from a 2025 survey answers it under the process in force when it was issued; a facility preparing for a 2026 survey should work from PE.01.01.01. The substantive expectations are the same. This reference’s 2026 PE chapter page also records that this reference has found no explicit integrated pest management EP in EC.02.06.01, so material claiming a pest-specific EP under this standard is, on that reading, mistaken.
