Identifier and Official Title

EC.02.06.01 was the Environment of Care standard under which pest activity observed during a Joint Commission survey was cited through December 31, 2025.

[CONTENT PENDING — PAYWALLED SOURCE] — the official standard title and verbatim EP text are published in the CAMH e-edition and are not reproduced here.

Status

Effective January 1, 2026, EC.02.06.01 EPs 1, 2, and 3 transferred to PE.01.01.01 — Safe, Adequate Environment. The Joint Commission’s September 2025 disposition report states that “no new concepts have been introduced” and that standards and EPs were “reorganized, consolidated, and renumbered without substantive change to the underlying compliance expectations.”

A facility holding an EC.02.06.01 citation from a 2025 survey answers it under the process in force when it was issued; a facility preparing for a 2026 survey should work from PE.01.01.01. The substantive expectations are the same. This reference’s 2026 PE chapter page also records that EC.02.06.01 never contained an explicit integrated pest management EP, so any material claiming a pest-specific EP under this standard is mistaken.

What the Surveyor Was Looking For

The same as under PE.01.01.01: observed pest activity or evidence during the Building Tour, followed by the written plan, the service records for the area, the threshold, and who knew. See the successor page for the full treatment.

Documentation, Common Failures, and Evidence of Standards Compliance

Identical to PE.01.01.01. The ESC structure is set out there.

Confidence Notes

MEDIUM confidence. The transfer and the disposition report quotation are carried from this reference’s 2026 PE chapter page, which rests on The Joint Commission’s publicly accessible disposition report and FAQ. The legacy standard’s title and EP text require CAMH access and are marked pending.
